Nicholas is a behavioural economist and public servant, and is currently a director general at Finance Canada, where he leads work in areas including economic growth, innovation, culture and science policy. He has wide interests in innovation, public policy, governance, and leadership; did his PhD in behavioural economics at the University of Oxford on how people can better plan for the future; thinks government could work better than it does; and recently published a book on long-term thinking in government. He is also a proud dad of two great kids and originally from British Columbia.
