Derek is a public servant with over 16 years of experience in public safety and law enforcement, having worked for Federal, Provincial, and Indigenous governments. His professional and academic interests intersect as he pursues doctoral research in Indigenous policing at Royal Roads University. Derek also actively shares his governance and policy expertise as a board director providing guidance to a community healthcare organization. In his personal time, Derek practices Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate, and the art of Ryukyu Kobudo at the local dojo. Derek was recognized with a Ministry Award for his part in an unprecedented policing transition in British Columbia.
